Washington Ave., are each charged with flight to elude arrest, unlawful restraint, resisting arrest and related counts stemming from the pursuit. Taylor police Officer Brian Holland tried to pull over a 1997 Subaru Outback about 5:25 p.m. along Oak Street after clocking the vehicle going about 15 miles over the speed limit, according to court documents.

Man who hit garbage worker, then fled sent to jail

Maxwell Materazzi-Hatala smashed the legs of city Department of Public Works employee Steven Pierson with his car, then fled and tried to cover up the crash. On Monday, a judge sent the Old Forge man to prison for nine to 18 months followed by seven years of probation for his crimes.

A man who hit and seriously injured a Scranton DPW worker more than a year ago was sentenced Monday in Lackawanna County court. Maxwell Hatala, 25, of Old Forge, was sentenced to nine to 18 months in jail and seven years of probation.

PennDOT Planning Work on Interstate 81

PennDOT officials say the repairs to the interstate will happen between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport exit and the Drinker Street exit in Dunmore. The work will take place in the beginning of May and take up to three weeks to complete.

About 60 high school students from throughout the Scranton area spent a chilly Saturday morning learning about the kinds of skills and experiences that are necessary to work for a company like AT&T, the university's Stan Zygmunt reports. As part of Scranton's University of Success program, “which aims to assist participating students to successfully complete high school and gain entrance into a college or university,” Joseph Divis, assistant vice president for external affairs at AT&T, discussed the kinds of skills and experience a company looks for in hiring new employees.

Two candidates withdraw from ballot

Councilman Rick Notari submitted nominating petitions to run as a Democrat for four-year and two-year Old Forge council seats, but withdrew from the four-year race Monday, Lackawanna County Director of Elections Marion Medalis said. His withdrawal means the borough's May 16 primary election ballot will have only three Democrats – council President Bob Semenza, Councilman Joseph Lenceski and Robert W. Hughes – for the three available four-year seats.
